Local SEO helps nearby customers find a relevant business
It is the work of making your business understandable and useful in searches with a local need. That might be an explicit town name or a search whose context suggests someone wants a nearby option.
The work includes accurate business information, useful service and location pages, a suitable Business Profile and a dependable route to contact.
Maps and website results are not the same thing
Google can show local map results alongside ordinary website links. A Business Profile is not a replacement for your website, and a strong website does not guarantee a particular map position. Google identifies relevance, distance and prominence as local ranking considerations.

Different businesses need different local information
| Business model | Useful local content |
|---|---|
| A shop or clinic | Accurate address, hours, accessibility and visit information. |
| A service-area business | Genuine working coverage, service scope and contact arrangements. |
| Several staffed branches | Distinct branch details, people, services and contact routes. |
| A fully remote service | Audience and offer information; local pages may not be appropriate. |
Start with accuracy and usefulness
Correct conflicting details, explain the services you offer and make the contact route work on mobile. Request honest reviews after real customer experiences. Add location pages only where they help a customer make a different decision.
Local SEO cannot make a distant business physically closer or compensate for an offer that is unclear.

How to tell whether the work is helping
Look at relevant search visibility, visits to local service pages and suitable enquiries. Keep location and seasonal changes in mind when comparing periods. Sitewell can help connect those signals with page improvements.
