How much does SEO cost in the UK?

Compare SEO quotes by scope, implementation and responsibility, with current Sitewell pricing linked separately from illustrative budget calculations.

Compare the work before comparing the monthly number

SEO prices are difficult to compare because “SEO” can mean an audit, ongoing advice, writing, technical changes or responsibility for the whole website. Ask each provider to describe a normal month and name what is excluded.

A cheaper report-only service may leave you paying somebody else to carry out the work. A larger package may include work you do not currently need. Neither headline price tells you the likely fit.

Questions to put alongside every quote

  • Is this a one-off project or an ongoing commitment?
  • Who researches, writes, reviews and publishes changes?
  • Which pages, services and markets are in scope?
  • Are technical implementation and developer time included?
  • What are the notice period, setup charges and tax treatment?
  • How will the provider report completed work and useful outcomes?

Work backwards from commercial capacity

Use your own margins and sales process to decide what a sustainable investment could be. For illustration only, a £400 monthly cost divided by £200 contribution per additional sale would require two additional sales to cover that cost, before other effects. That calculation does not predict that SEO will produce them.

Account for the time between an enquiry and a sale, the proportion of enquiries that are suitable and your ability to take on more work. This is a planning exercise, not a promised return.

Where Sitewell fits

Sitewell publishes its current plan prices and inclusions on the pricing page. Essential focuses on website care and enquiries, Growth adds managed search and content work, and Complete adds Business Profile management and broader support. Check the current offer and scope there rather than relying on a price copied into an old article.

Compare current Sitewell pricing against the responsibilities you want a provider to take on.

Treat guaranteed positions as a warning sign

A provider can commit to work and communication, but cannot control Google’s results. Ask how priorities will be adjusted when evidence changes.
